NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball head coach Karen Barefoot is pleased to announce the signing of Ashley Jackson, a 5’9 guard from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tenn.
“Ashley's versatility is her best asset,” explained head coach Karen Barefoot. “She can score so many ways. She is an exceptional shooter, very athletic and a high volume rebounder. She will fit well into our up-tempo, pressing system.”
Ashley Jackson discussed her decision, “I chose ODU because Coach Barefoot has created excitement around the program, and I want to be a part of helping ODU return to a national prominent program.”
In high school, Jackson played for a winning program and looks forward to joining former teammate and current Lady Monarch, Odegua Oigbokie.
“Ashley did so many things for us on the court,” exclaimed Ridgeway’s head coach Rhonda Kendall. “Not only is she a great player, but a great person too. She also received offers from MTSU, UAB and Tennessee Tech.”
A four-year starter at Ridgeway High School, Jackson averaged 17 points per contest and 13 rebounds per game. In 2014, Jackson was named to the All District Team, after leading Ridgeway to the 2014 County Championship, where she was announced as the MVP.
In 2013, Jackson played on the USJN All-Star Team, as well as the All-District First Team, while in 2012, she was a member of the Best of Preps and garnered All-Regional accolades.
Jackson was named the Newcomer of the Year, a Scholar Athlete, and was placed on the All Tournament Team in 2011.
Not only has Jackson excelled on the hardwood, but also in the classroom, as she currently holds a 3.17 GPA. “We are pleased to have Ashley join our ODU family and community,” concluded Barefoot.
