ODUSports.com will continue to do Q&A interviews throughout the spring semester.  Today's feature is of junior linebacker, Martez Simpson.  A junior college transfer from Pear River CC, Simpson will head into the fall as one of the starters at linebacker for the Monarchs.

Did you have a personal goal that you wanted to work on this spring? I worked on my footwork and open field tackling because I have a hard time with that.

What is the most important skill you need to play your position? Your eyes because you need to be able to read your keys and the quarterback.

Why ODU? It felt like a family here, in comparison to all the other schools, and the coaching staff made me feel really welcomed here.

How would you describe the defense for this upcoming season? We should be well prepared with the drills the coaches have us working.

How excited are you about the upcoming season? I'm really excited. I think we have something special going here and I am really to be a part of it.

If you could play any other sport which sport would it be and why? Basketball, because my entire family plays basketball except for me.

You have a high IQ in your position, how did you obtain that? Because I am not that big of linebacker, so I had to enhance another skill to make up for it.

What is the biggest challenge the defense is going to face this upcoming season in C-USA? Going against all Division I schools, which usually have a passing offense. So we just have to work on our passing defense.

What is your favorite class this semester? Microeconomics.

Favorite song right now? Birds, by Migos

Do you have any pre game rituals? I just listen to music.

Who is your biggest role model, and why? My grandfather because he taught me a lot when I was younger.

Favorite food: Steak.
