FARMVILLE, Va. – In what was the second of four spring games for the Old Dominion University women’s soccer team, the Lady Monarchs played the Longwood Lancers to a 1-1 draw this past Saturday.

Old Dominion head coach Angie Hind said, “This was a competitive game with both teams having periods of dominance. There were some real positives to take from today, as I felt we really limited Longwood’s chances. We competed well and looked to be a goal threat especially from wide areas.”

Old Dominion started the match well with a lot of possession early on in the game, when they capitalized from a set piece. It was long free kick from Jackie Stroud that found Jessie Klamut in back post area, where Klamut out jumped her defender to head ball into the back of the net in the 11th minute.

The Lancers equalized early in second off a corner which ended up being a deflected goal from one of the ODU players who pressing the shot.

In the last five minutes of the match, the Lady Monarchs battled well and had two great chances to win it, but weren’t able to find the net.

Hind concluded, “It was really pleasing to see how strong we looked in the final stages of the game pushing hard to get that second goal, a sign that we are getting stronger.”
