Old Dominion Travels to Play No. 16 Virginia Wednesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team visits the No. 16-ranked University of Virginia this Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.

ODU (3-6) lost by a 13-11 narrow margin to American University this past Saturday. Lady Monarchs junior midfielder Ashmore Standing and junior attacker Jessica Liberty each scored a hat trick. Junior midfielder Christina Rea added two goals, but ODU could not overcome the 13 first half turnovers as they came up short to the Eagles.

Senior co-captain Emily Austerberry leads Old Dominion with 19 goals on 45 shots and 20 draw controls. Liberty currently leads ODU with nine assists and is tied with Austerberry for scoring with 27 points. Freshman goalkeeper Maggi Buckley posts a 12.24 goals against average and leads the Lady Monarachs with 24 ground balls.

Series Record: ODU Trails 33-2. First Meeting came in 1980. Have met every year since.

Previous Meeting at UVA: ODU lost by a 14-13 final in 2012. Lisa Bernardini, Rebecca Reymann and Emily Austerberry each tallied a hat trick. Old Dominion's last win against UVA came in 2009 (13-10). Bernardini and now assistant coach Ashley Kellogg scored four goals to lead ODU to the historic win.

Virginia Players to Watch: Senior attacker Liza Blue leads UVA with 29 goals scored and is second on the team with 32 points. Junior attacker Courtney Swan leads the Cavaliers with 52 draw controls and 39 points. Senior goalkeeper Liz Colgan posts a 13.05 goals against average and has made 104 saves (.446 save percentage).

Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia is 4-6 and lost a 16-11 road game to Duke, which Blue scored four goals and UVA was outshot 31-26. In Virginia's last home game they defeated James Madison by a 12-10 score. Blue tallied three goals and added an assist while Casey Booklet also netted a hat trick.

ODU hosts Virginia Tech this Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m for Senior Day. The Lady Monarchs encourage fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, while the team will be wearing pink socks and pregame will have a Nike Sock Giveaway.
