NORFOLK, Va. - Seven members of the 2013 Old Dominion University Field Hockey team were named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad on Wednesday.
"I'm proud of our team's work ethic on and off the field," said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "We have a number of players who have made a real commitment to improving their grades, and it is good recognition for our team to receive this award again."
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. Old Dominion was also recognized as one of the top programs in the country with a Team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Freshman Megan Byas, senior Danielle Clutter, sophomore Emily Harting, sophomore Megan Hept, freshman Sarah Kazmierski, junior Kelsey Smither and sophomore Caitlin Walsh were all named to this year's squad.
Clutter was named to the National Academic Squad following all four years she played for the Lady Monarchs. Harting, Hept, Smither and Walsh were all named to the squad for a second consecutive year for Old Dominion.
In addition Kazmierski was recognized as one of the selected Scholars of Distinction for having achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
