NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team took down the Owls from Temple University 5-2 and improved to 6-2 overall on the season after picking up two dominating wins in two days at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Lady Monarchs started off with a bang against the Temple Owls, winning two out of three of the double’s matches. ODU’s No. 1 doubles team of Nikol Hristova and Melissa Esnal Olguin made quick work of Rebecca Breland and Dina Karina from Temple for their second win of the weekend (8-1). Also winning their second doubles match of the weekend, was the fantastic freshmen duo of Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic, who had no problem with Temple’s Jordan Batey and Marina Bedon (8-1). The freshman pair has only lost one doubles match on the season (against Maryland on Feb.7).
It was more of the same for Old Dominion in singles play. At No. 1, Nikol Hristova earned her second win in as many days defeating Yanna Mavrina (6-1, 6-1). Ingrid Vojcinakova won convincingly over Alicia Doms (6-2, 6-0). Marijana Novakovic was victorious yet again at the No. 3 spot, with a win over Temple’s Jordan Batey. Senior Melissa Esnal Olguin finished off the day with a straight sets win over Rebecca Breland (6-1, 6-4).

The Lady Monarchs will be back in action against East Carolina on Tuesday at the Folkes Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. at 4:00 p.m.
