NORFOLK, Va. - Senior attacker Emily Austerberry scored five goals for the second consecutive game, while five other Lady Monarchs scored twice to lead ODU to an 18-11 victory Sunday afternoon from the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

"One of the biggest factors today was the draw control," said ODU Head Coach Heather Holt. "We really controlled the draw and that's huge everytime you can get possession of the ball. I think that's the first game we absolutely controlled that and that's fun for our team because that's been a goal for a long time coming. We also had some huge stops in goal from Maggi Buckley. She had some point blank stops, which was awesome and helps lift the team up."

ODU (3-5) freshman midfielder Connor Carson (7th of the year) picked up the games opening goal at 24:34 from Austerberry (Old Dominion has scored the games first goal in their last six games) to give the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

Old Dominion scored the first five goals of the game with Austerberry, junior midfielder Christina Rea, junior midfielder Ashmore Standing and junior attacker Jessica Liberty all scoring to give ODU the 5-0 lead.

Saint Joseph's (3-4) scored the next three to cut the ODU lead to 5-3 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

Freshman midfielder Megan Cameron would answer with an assist to Carson at 8:31 of the first half. Rea followed two minutes later with her second of the game from Carson to give ODU the 7-3 lead.

Austerberry followed with her team leading 15th goal of the season at 1:33 on a free position shot to give ODU the 8-4 lead. Cameron added one more 15 seconds later to give the Lady Monarchs the 9-4 halftime lead.

Old Dominion did not let up to start the second half. Austerberry's scored her third with an assist going to Rea, Austerberry tallied her second straight hat trick of the week.

Carson would score once more for her eighth of the year with an assist to Austerberry, giving ODU the 11-4 lead. Liberty tallied her 14th of the season with an assist to Carson. Austerberry and Rea gave the Lady Monarchs a 14-5 lead as each scored with 24 minutes left in the game.

The Hawks answered with four straight goals, with Julia Falcone scoring five on the day.

ODU's Standing and Liberty gave ODU two more goals with an assist going to Morgan Gallagher. Rea tallied her fourth of the day on a free position shot and Austerberry would score her fifth with an assist going to Mary Margaret McCaleb to give Old Dominion the 18-11 win.

Old Dominion freshman goalkeeper Maggi Buckley picked up her second win of the year (first career win at home) and made 12 saves on the day.

The Lady Monarchs outshot the Hawks by a 32-29 tally and picked up 22 ground balls to Saint Joseph's 18. 

ODU won 19 draw controls to the Hawks 12 and were able to clear 10 of 11 tries.
