NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion Rowing team begins the spring season March 22 against the University of North Carolina at the ODU Women's Rowing Center.

The Lady Monarchs get a second shot at North Carolina as ODU hosted the Tar Heels last fall in the Oyster Cup.

For the second straight season ODU will row in the San Diego Crew Classic. Last season, Old Dominion competed in the 40th Annual San Diego Crew Classic and came within one second of winning the Varsity Eight race.

The rowing team also competes in their fifth consecutive Knecht Cup, dating back to the 2010-11 season. Last year in Cherry Hill, New Jersey ODU's Varsity Eight boat won the Knecht Cup by five seconds over the next placing boat.

Long Winter

Old Dominion has only been able to go out on the water for one day of practice due to the cold weather, leading up to their opener in less than one week. "We need a few more good rowing days," said sophomore coxswain Lydia Cleveland. "I think we have put in a lot of good work in training and it will transition well to the water."

Successful Fall on the Water

Old Dominion completed the fall season that brought three first-place finishes- one at the Head of the Schuylkill, and two first-place finishes at the Head of the Hooch.

Final Season in Conference USA

The Lady Monarchs will compete in their final season in the C-USA and move into the Big 12 Conference starting in the spring of 2015. Conference USA will host the 2014 C-USA Championships for the final time from May 16-18 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
