Lady Monarchs Host Returning CUSA Champs Tulsa Wed. at 7PM

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team will take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Wednesday, February 5, at the Ted Constant Center. Tipoff time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ODU will look to snap Tulsa’s two game conference road winning streak, and in the process start a winning streak of their own.

The Lady Monarchs 65-52 come from behind overtime victory in thrilling fashion marked Karen Barefoot's 250th career win.

The 2013-14 Tulsa Golden Hurricane (10-8, 4-3)
Matilda Mossman is currently in her third season as the Tulsa Head Women’s Basketball Coach. In just her second year with the team Mossman led the Golden Hurricane to a conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore guard Ashley Clark leads the team with 14.3 points per game to go with her average of 6.8 rebounds per game. Tulsa also relies on Kelsee Grovey who averages 12.7 points per game and has an assist to turnover ratio of 56-37 this season. Golden Hurricane senior Mariah Turner nets 10.4 points per game.

Tulsa is fifth in Conference USA in scoring offense with 71.1 points per game, while they are 14th in the league in scoring defense (71.4 points allowed per game). The Golden Hurricane are being outscored by their opponents by a slim .7 margin. Tulsa is tied for second in the league in field goal percentage (.432) and third in the C-USA in 3-point field goal percentage (.352).

Tulsa Last Time Out
Tulsa trailed by a as many as 21 points but fell short against 25th-ranked Middle Tennessee, 67-57 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa.

The 2013-14 Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs (10-12, 3-5)
ODU is 7-3 at home this season and are been led by: Shae Kelley (16.9 points, 10.3 rebounds), Tiffany Minor (8.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg), Chelisa Painter (8.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg), Galaisha Goodhope (8.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg) and Stephanie Gardner (7.4 ppg).

The Lady Monarchs are averaging 66.8 points per game and hitting 42.8 percent of its field goals on the season, which is good for fifth in the conference. ODU is averaging 31.3 percent from the 3-point line, while allowing just a 28.9 3-point field goal percentage. Old Dominion is tied for sixth in Conference USA in rebounding defense with 39 rebounds per game.

The Lady Monarchs Last Time Out
Shae Kelley led all scorers with 24 points to lead Old Dominion (10-12, 3-5) past Marshall, 65-52, on Saturday at the Ted Constant Center in front of a crowd of 2,740.

Kelley also led the Lady Monarchs with eight offensive rebounds, including 17 overall. Chelisa Painter and Tiffany Minor scored ten points each, while Minor had nine rebounds. Galaisha Goodhope scored six points and led ODU with five assists. ODU’s bench contributed 15 points, led by LaQuanda Younger who scored six and went 2-2 from the field.

ODU held Marshall to just 37 percent shooting and 5 of 18 from the 3-point line. The Lady Monarchs outrebounded the Thundering Herd 46-33 and made ten more free throws to secure the home victory.

Looking Ahead for the Lady Monarchs
The ODU Lady Monarchs return home on Saturday, February 15, when they will take on UTEP, at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s game at the Ted Constant Convocation Center will also be Hoops for a Cure!
