Records Fall On First Night of C-USA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Old Dominion University swimming and diving team set a pair of records Wednesday night at the Conference USA Championships.

The men’s 200-medley relay team started the meet off with a new school record while the 800-free relay team also set a school record.

In the first event of the day, the 200-medley team of Francisco Byrne, Jason Zeidler, Vitor Sa and Sidni Hoxha set the school record at 1:28.65.  The time was just off the first place time of 1:27.20 by the team from Western Kentucky.

The Lady Monarchs 200-medley team of Colleen VandePoel, Julia Vido, MacKenzie Payment and Juliana dos Santos finished fifth in the race.

In the final race of the night, the men’s 800-free relay set another school record with a time of 6:32.39.  The team of Sa, Nick Hooper, Bernardo Figuiredo and Sidni Hoxha finished in second just .29 seconds behind the first place team of East Carolina.

Danny Rabe and TJ Ewer finished sixth and 10th respectively, at the 1-meter dive to advance to the finals on Thursday.

The championships resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the preliminaries in the 500, 200 and 50-free.
