DELAND, Fla. - The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team begins a road trip this weekend to take on Stetson University Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center.
Old Dominion (0-2) gave a good performance this past weekend in a tough comeback 15-12 loss to the Louisville Cardinals. Senior attacker Emily Austerberry and freshman midfielder Connor Carson led the Lady Monarchs with three goals apiece, while junior attacker Jessica Liberty added a goal and two assists. Carson tallied four total goals on the weekend and were her first career goals for ODU.
"It's been a really great experience, I honestly didn't expect to come out Friday and have the confidence, but it is all because of the older girls including me and trusting me, it feels really great and I hope to keep it going throughout the season," said Carson. "I'm really excited about the upcoming trip to Florida, we just need to play our game and not play up or down to any team."
ODU also battled UC Davis last Sunday and came out on top in shots (30-29) and ground balls (19-17) but failed to cash in on many opportunities as the Lady Monarchs fell 12-6. Freshman midfielder Megan Cameron scored her first two goals of her career, while freshman midfielder Megan Topper added her first goal as a Lady Monarch. Freshman midfielder Colby Muller added her first career point for the Lady Monarchs on Cameron's first goal.
Carson leads Old Dominion with four goals in her two career games played with ODU. Austerberry and Ashmore Standing lead the Lady Monarchs in shots with 12 and ten respectively. Junior goalkeeper Karen Hayde leads ODU with seven ground balls.
