NORFOLK, Va. - ODUSports.com and Monarch Media present a get to know you segment we like to call "Relax With LAX", which gives fans a chance to learn more about their favorite ODU lacrosse players.
This week's featured guest is ODU lacrosse junior goalkeeper, Karen Hayde. In the video Karen describes her most memorable sports experience, how she got started playing lacrosse, what made her commit to ODU, among other things.
A native of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Hayde started in goal for the Lady Monarchs in all 17 games last season as a sophomore and led the team with 44 ground balls, which she was ranked 31st nationally. Hayde has started in goal in both games to begin the 2014 season for ODU and is currently one of two co-captains for this year's Old Dominion team.
Q: What was the first thought you had when joining the lacrosse program?
A: I was really excited to take my play to the next level. Being in high school your dream is to go Division I. So having that finalized was like a really big accomplishment.
Q: What is the most challenging thing you have had to do in college?
A: Balancing practice, class and sleep.
Q: What is your most memorable sports experience?
A: Probably the win against William & Mary last season. We came back from a five or seven goal deficit.
Q: How did you get started in lacrosse?
A: I got a concussion in basketball when I was in seventh grade and I wanted to play a spring sport and my mom said I had to wear a helmet so that's why I became a lacrosse goalie.
Q: What made you commit to Old Dominion?
A: When I came down to campus I really loved the facilities and the program and being near the beach isn't bad either, it gives it a nice little treat.
