HOUSTON, Texas – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (11-13, 4-6) will travel to Rice University (11-13, 4-7) to square-off with the Owls in Tudor Fieldhouse on Wednesday, February 19, at 8:00 p.m. EST/7:00 p.m. CST.

When the Lady Monarchs defeated Marshall 65-52 in overtime on February 1, at the Ted Constant Center, the victory gave ODU head coach, Karen Barefoot, 250 career wins.

The All Star Girls Report has released their top 115 schools’ incoming recruiting classes for 2014 and has ranked the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team No. 43, which is the top ranked team in Conference USA.

Kelley Becomes First Basketball Player in School’s History to Garner ‘C-USA Player of the Week’ Honors
On December 9, 2013, Old Dominion University’s junior forward Shae Kelley was named C-USA Player of the Week. For the two games that week, Shae averaged 25 points, 14.5 rebounds, four assists, three steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game and shot an average of 56.4% from the floor.

Former CAA Rookie of the Year, Ashley Betz-White Will Redshirt 2013-14 Season
On January 29th, Old Dominion University women’s basketball head coach, Karen Barefoot announced that the Lady Monarch’s all-conference junior guard, Ashley Betz-White, will redshirt this season due to bilateral stress fractures in her lower legs.

Lady Monarch’s 2013-14 Education Day
The women’s basketball team had 8,086 elementary school children at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Dec. 4, 2013 for its third annual Education Day Game with the Norfolk Public Schools. The game marked the Lady Monarchs’ highest attended game since the Ted opened in 2002.

About the 2013-14 Rice Owls
Greg Williams enters his ninth season at the helm for Rice and has lead the Owls to two C-USA title games, along with four postseason appearances. Williams got his first head coaching position in 1980 with the WBL's Dallas Diamonds, a team that featured ODU alumni Nancy Liberman and drew more fans than the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks in the WBL championship series in 1981. Williams was the first coach to be a head coach in three different women’s leagues (WBL, WABA, WNBA).

The Owls are led by senior forward Jessica Kuster, who averages just over 20 points a game. She became the all-time leading scorer at Rice against Tulane on Jan. 29 with 1,881 points. She also holds the Rice record for rebounds and career field goals made. Rice is 10-3 when they out rebound their opponent, and are just 1-9 when they do not.

-Rebound Margin: The Owls are ranked 7th in rebound margin with +2.2.

-Double Doubles: Kuster ranks second nationally and is first in C- USA with 21.
-Overall Points: Kuster is 30th in the nation and third in C-USA with 493.
-Points Per Game: Kuster is 29th in the nation and 3rd in C-USA with 20.5.
-Rebounds Per Game: Kuster is 4th in the nation and 1st in C-USA with 13.5.

The Lady Monarchs will remain on the road in Texas on Saturday, February 22, in San Antonio, where Old Dominion will take on the Roadrunners of UTSA at 8:00 p.m. EST/7:00 p.m. CST.
