NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (7-8, 0-1) will return home Sat., Jan. 11, for their second conference affair of the season, as the Lady Monarchs will take on the Green Wave of Tulane University (10-4, 1-0) at 2:00 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

ODU and Tulane have only met one time before Saturday’s showdown, and that was on Dec. 30 in 2010, when the Lady Monarchs fell to the Green Wave by a score of 62-59, as part of the Tulane/Double Tree Classic in New Orleans.

Saturday’s game will be aired live with the voice of the Lady Monarchs, Doug Ripley on play-by-play and former Lady Monarch assistant coach, Susan Montgomery handling the color duties. Tulane Head Coach – Lisa Stockton
Lisa Stockton is currently in her 20th season at the helm of the Tulane women's basketball program where she is the dean of Green Wave and Conference USA coaches and the winningest women's basketball coach in the history of either entity. 

Along the way, Stockton has led the Green Wave to the postseason 14 times (10 NCAAs, 4 WNITs) and claimed conference Coach of the Year honors three times (Metro in 1995, C-USA in 2007 and 2010). In addition, Tulane has won four C-USA regular-season championships (1996-97, 1998-99, 2006-07, 2009-10) and the tournament title on five occasions (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2010).

The 2013-14 Green Wave of Tulane University (10-4)
Tulane is playing their final campaign as a member of Conference USA. Tulane will be leaving for the American Athletic Conference in all sports starting in 2014-15. Over the previous 19 years, Tulane has a league-best 377 wins.

The Green Wave have had four consecutive seasons with 20-plus wins. Tulane returned three starters among seven letterwinners from last year's squad, which finished 24-9 overall, tied for second in the C-USA regular-season standings with an 11-5 league record, and advanced to the round of 16 in the 2013 WNIT to become the first Green Wave squad to play in the third round of a postseason tournament.

So far this season, Tulane has received key contributions from six different players: Danielle Blagg (13.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg), Jamie Kaplan (11.8 ppg, 6 apg), Leslie Vorpahl (9.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg), Tiffany Dale (9.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg), Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (8.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg) and Chinwe Duru (7.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg).

The 2013-14 Old Dominion University Lady Monarch’s (7-8)
Old Dominion is led by Shae Kelley (16.1 points, 10.5 rebounds), Stephanie Gardner (8.8 ppg), Tiffany Minor (8.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg), Chelisa Painter (7.7 ppg, 5.1 rebounds) and Galaisha Goodhope (7.5 ppg, 3.2 apg). The Lady Monarchs are averaging 67.7 points a game and hitting 39.6 percent of its field goals on the season.

Shae Kelley will be seeking her league leading 10th double-double of the season on Saturday.

Old Dominion’s Last Outing
The Lady Monarchs fell to Charlotte, 80-59, at Dale F. Halton Arena on Wednesday night game, in what was the first conference game of the season for both teams and the first ever in the C-USA for ODU. The 49ers improved to 7-7 (1-0) on the season, while the Lady Monarchs dropped to 7-8 (0-1).

UNCC’s Ny Hammonds came into the game leading the 49ers in scoring (11.6 ppg), and on Wednesday she led all scorers with 18 points on just 3-10 shooting from the floor but went 12-15 from the free-throw line. Hammonds also dished out seven assists and hauled down five boards.

ODU’s senior co-captain, Stephanie Gardner filled up the stat sheet and led Old Dominion in scoring as she turned in a 14 point, four rebound, two assist, two steal and one block performance on Wednesday. Shae Kelley fell just shy of her 10th double-double of the season, recording 12 points and eight rebounds. Kelley was limited to just seven minutes of playing time in the first half, as she picked up two early first half fouls.

For the game, a total of 58 personal fouls were whistled; 31 on ODU and 27 on Charlotte. The 49ers shot a total of 40 free throws, making 28 of them for 70.0%. The Lady Monarchs hit 17-33 from the charity stripe for 51.5%.

Galaisha Goodhope (six assists) and Odegua Oigbokie (four rebounds) each scored nine points in the losing effort. Chelisa Painter posted six points and six rebounds (four offensive) for the Lady Monarchs on Wednesday.

As a team, Charlotte shot 42.1% (24-57) from the floor and 36.4% (4-11) from behind the arc. For the contest, Old Dominion hit 35.7% (20-56) of their field goal attempts and 18.2% (2-11) from downtown.

Looking Ahead for the Lady Monarchs
After Saturday’s contest, the Lady Monarchs will hit the road to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss on Wed., Jan. 15 for an 8:00 p.m. (EST) tipoff.
