GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team will look to snap East Carolina’s 23-game home winning streak on Thursday, January 30, in the Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C. Tipoff time is 2:00 p.m., as announced by ECU officials on Wednesday. This game got postponed from Wednesday to Thursday due to inclement weather and adverse travel conditions.
HEAD COACHES REUNITE
Old Dominion's head coach, Karen Barefoot will be reunited with East Carolina's head coach, Heather Macy, who was one of Barefoot's assistants at Lenoir-Rhyne College in 2002.

(41-9, ODU) – Old Dominion and East Carolina have met a total of 50 times prior to Thursday’s showdown, with the Lady Monarchs claiming victory in 41 of those ballgames. ODU has won the last 28 matchups against the Pirates. These two schools first met during the 1969-70 season, when Old Dominion defeated ECU, 52-47. The last time these two schools faced off was on November 11, 2007, in Greenville, where ODU got the better of East Carolina, 88-66.

The 2013-14 East Carolina Pirates (16-3, 4-2)
Heather Macy is currently in her fourth season at the helm for East Carolina and has turned the program around since arriving in Greenville. The Pirates finished this season’s non-conference play with a 12-1 record to mark their best non-conference start in the program’s 40-plus year history. ECU’s only two conference losses were by a combined three points, in which both required overtime to resolve: Florida International (76-75) and most recently, Southern Miss. (82-80) this past Saturday. Both conference losses also occurred on the road for East Carolina. The Pirates have won eight of their last 10 contests.

ECU is 10-0 at home this season and have won 23 straight ballgames on their own hardwood.
Leading the way so far this season for ECU has been redshirt sophomore Jada Payne, who is averaging 20.7 points per game (third in CUSA and 31st in the nation) to go with her average of 7.6 rebounds per contest. Payne has six double-doubles so far this season. Macy and company have also relied heavily on redshirt junior Abria Trice who nets 16.8 points per game.
The Pirates are outscoring their opponents 74.3 points per game to 58.8 for a scoring margin of +15.4, which is good for first in the league and 18th in the nation. ECU also leads Conference USA in field goal percent defense (34.9), three-point field goal percent defense (25.9), rebounds per game, opponents rebounds per game, rebounding margin, blocked shots per game (5.2) and steals per contest (11.9). The 11.9 steal’s mark is currently good enough for seventh in the country.

The Lady Monarchs have been led by: Shae Kelley (16.4 points, 10.2 rebounds), Tiffany Minor (8.8 ppg/3.7 rpg), Chelisa Painter (8.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg), Galaisha Goodhope (8.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and Stephanie Gardner (8.1 ppg).
The Lady Monarchs are averaging 68.1 points a game and hitting 41.2 percent of its field goals on the season. ODU averages knocking down 5.4 three-point field goals per contest. On average, Old Dominion forces 17.7 turnovers per game and collects 8.9 steals per contest, which is currently within the Top-100 nationally. ODU also ranks within the NCAA’s Top-100 lists for three-point field-goal defense, as they limit opposing teams to just connecting on 29% from long-range per game.
Shae Kelley’s 12 double-doubles currently ranks No. 13 in the country, while her 10.2 rebounds per game is currently good for a No. 35 national ranking.
The Lady Monarchs Last Time Out
Ebony Rowe led all scorers with 17 points on her record setting day to lead Middle Tennessee (17-3, 6-0) past Old Dominion, 62-49, on Saturday at the Murphy Center in front of a crowd of 3,806.
Head coach Karen Barefoot said after the game, "I really feel like we gave a great effort, especially defensively. We never quit and continued to battle throughout the game. I was extremely pleased with our effort and heart today. Our mistakes are fixable. We must stay together, continue to work hard and improve every day, so that we can be playing our best basketball come March."
ODU’s senior co-captain, Stephanie Gardner led the way for the Lady Monarchs with nine points. Shae Kelley, who was hampered by foul trouble throughout the game, netted eight points to go along with four rebounds. Galaisha Goodhope also tallied eight points, and led Old Dominion on the boards with nine rebounds. Senior Shakeva Richards sparked ODU off the bench shooting 3-4 from the floor and scoring six points to go with four rebounds in 18 minutes of work. Also scoring six points on 3-4 shooting was freshman Odegua Oigbokie.
Old Dominion held Middle Tenn. to 34.4% shooting for the game and 27.6% (8-29) from the three-point line. The Blue Raiders’ 34.4% from the field is their fourth lowest shooting performance this season. The Lady Monarchs were 66.7% from the floor and 50% from three in the second half. For the game, ODU hit 48.9% of their field-goal attempts. The Lady Monarchs were also a perfect 100% (3-3) from the free-throw line.

Old Dominion will return home on Saturday, February 1, when they will take on Marshall, at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s game at the Ted Constant Convocation Center will also be Barefoot Night!
