NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University and Max Media of Hampton Roads have announced that 20 Monarch baseball games will be aired this spring on Star 1310 (WGH) AM, beginning March 7 when the Monarchs open Conference USA Play at defending league champion and pre-season 15th ranked Rice. In all 16 away games will be broadcast.
Ted Alexander, ODU's Director of Broadcasting and the voice of ODU football and men's basketball, will serve as the primary play-by-play voice, assisted by Doug Ripley, who has served as host announcer for Karen Barefoot's coaches show and play-by-play voice for the Lady Monarch basketball games the past two years.
"We are very glad to continue to upgrade our number of games on the radio to 20 this year. Our goal is to get all of our games on the radio in the near future as this helps build a fan base and following locally. With our C-USA games and our game against pre-season number one ranked UVA games on the radio, it will continue to raise the awareness and excitement of Monarch baseball in the area." – Chris Finwood
The schedule will include 16 away C-USA games, the VCU “Key Dog Classic” on March 26th at Hampton’s War Memorial Stadium, the home William and Mary contest on April 2 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, the contest at William and Mary on April 15 and at Harbor Park against pre-season No. 1 Virginia on April 29th.
