FLUSHING, N.Y. – Old Dominion University’s Carlos Lopez Villa fell to UCLA’s sixth-seeded Clay Thompson on Friday afternoon in the Second Round of 16 of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean National King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
In the Second Round of 16, UCLA’s No. 1 player and right-hander from Venice Beach, Cali. proved to be too much for Carlos Lopez Villa (6-4, 6-2). With the win over Lopez Villa, Thompson now advances to the Quarterfinals to face Oklahoma’s second-seeded Guillermo Alcorta (nationally ranked No. 36).
On Thursday, Lopez Villa (Jr./Madrid, Spain) took down New Mexico’s Samir Iftikhar (Jr./United Kingdom) in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) in order to advance to today’s Second Round. Yesterday, nationally ranked No. 74, Thompson made quick work of his First Round opponent, Diego Galeano of Baylor, 6-3, 6-3.
