NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football quarterback Taylor Heinicke was honored by College Sports Madness for his performance in ODU’s 66-14 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
Heinicke completed 28-of-35 passes for 293 yards and six touchdown passes. The six TD tosses is tied for the second most in school history, as Heinicke passed for six scores in last year’s second round FCS playoff victory over Coastal Carolina last season.
Heinicke, Boyd and Evans Honored by College Football Performance Awards
Heinicke, Cam Boyd and Aaron Evans received accolades from College Football Performance Awards.
Boyd carried seven times for 119-yards and a touchdown and also caught three passes for 52-yards. In the third quarter, Boyd broke off a 70-yard touchdown run, the longest in ODU history.
Evans returned just one kickoff but he returned it 75-yards all the way to the Rams 25-yardline to set up an ODU touchdown. The senior is just 55 yards away from breaking the ODU single-season record for kick return yards in a season.
Heinicke registered his third game this season where he completed 80 percent of his passes in the win over Rhode Island. He also recorded 33 yards rushing to produce 326 yards of total offense.
The Monarchs are back on the road this week as they travel to Idaho to face the Vandals at 2 p.m. PST/5 p.m. EST.
