CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Old Dominion University swimming and diving had an outstanding showing on day one of the Nike Cup on Thursday, winning two events and setting a pair of school records.
Senior Sidni Hoxha set the ODU school record to win the A Final in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 19.44.
In the A Final of the women’s 500 meter freestyle, Yesim Giresunlu also set a school record with a time of 4:49.74 to finish in sixth place.
Rachel Eckert continued her winning ways this season, edging out Duke’s Kendall McClenney 272.65-271.10 in the preliminaries before notching a time of 294.35 to defeat a pair of UNC divers. Eckert has won every event she has competed in this season.
In the B Finals in the men’s 500 meter freestyle, Bernardo Figuiredo finished second, and 10th in the overall finals with a time of 4:31.63.
ODU is back at it again tomorrow with day two of the Nike Cup, starting at 10 a.m. with the preliminary events and the finals starting at 6 p.m.
