NORFOLK, Va. - Redshirt senior Christy Longacre was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week and junior forward Rosario Villagra was selected to the Big East Honor Roll.
The No. 10 Old Dominion University field hockey team has won ten straight games after defeating No. 4 Connecticut and No. 2 North Carolina at home this past weekend. Longacre helped ODU to their sixth shutout in the last seven games after a 5-0 win against No. 4 UConn. Then on senior day, Longacre had two assists on ODU's first two goals to help the Lady Monarchs defeat No. 2 UNC 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.
Villagra scored one goal and added three assists this weekend. She had all three assists in the 5-0 win against the Huskies and gave ODU a goal in the 3-2 overtime win against the Tar Heels. Villagra now leads the Big East in scoring with 41 points, 13 assists, .76 assists/game and 5 game winning goals. This is Villagra's fifth appearance on the honor roll and sixth overall appearance on the Big East Weekly release (last week was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week).
Amber Youtz of Temple was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week. Joining Villagra on the honor roll were Shannon Sloss (Louisville), Victoria Stratton (Louisville), Daniella Berasconi (Providence) and Deidra Clymer (Providence).
Old Dominion has not lost since Sept. 20 at Louisville and travels to Rutgers Friday at 1 p.m and will try to earn at least a share of their first Big East regular season title.
