Johnson, Staton and Heinicke Honored by Media Outlets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Old Dominion University true freshmen, Gerard Johnson and Richie Staton, were honored by College Football Performance honors for this past weekend’s 27-24 win at Norfolk State.

Johnson earned honorable mention accolades as an all-purpose performer while Staton received honorable mention at linebacker.

Staton finished with eight tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss in the win.  The true freshman middle linebacker has started all eight games on the season and leads the Monarchs with four sacks.  He is second on the squad with 54 tackles and leads with 8.5 tackles for loss.

Johnson delivered his best game of the season, becoming the first ODU running back to surpass 100-yards this season.  He carried 17 times for 101-yards and caught three passes for 38 yards.

Heinicke Named College Sports Madness QB of the Week

Taylor Heinicke received Quarterback of the Week honors from College Sports Madness after going 26-of-44 for 325 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s win.  The junior signal caller became the first Division I quarterback in the state of Virginia to pass for more than 10,000 career yards, a feat he completed on his 22-yard touchdown pass to Larry Pinkard in the second quarter.

Heinicke has complete 235-of-335 passes for 2,725 yards this season for 19 touchdowns.  He also has rushed for 295 yards and four touchdowns.
