/Hattiesburg, Miss. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team fell to Southern Mississippi on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex, 4-3, in overtime.
In the 5th minute of play, Southern Mississippi’s Adriana Garcia netted her second goal of the season off an Brooke Hendrix assist. In the 12th minute, Garcia stuck again after an Danica Robert’s pass, to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 2-0.
Old Dominion answered back in the 51st minute, when Melanie Oakes found the back of the Golden Eagles’ net. The Lady Monarchs knotted the contest in the 61st minute, when Grace Haverly scored her first goal of the season, nodding the score at 2-2.
In the 79th minute Danica Roberts finished a Mary Marg Underwood pass, lifting Southern Miss. to a 3-2 advantage. Old Dominion’s Jordan Jones tied the match back up at 3-3 off a misplayed Golden Eagles’ pass.
The two teams went to overtime, where in the 100th minute Danica Robert’s crossed the ball into Danielle Beatty, who ended the game in Southern Miss’ favor, 4-3.
The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team will return to play on October 31, at 7 p.m., against Charlotte for Senior Night. Six seniors in all will be honored.
