C-USA Leading Monarchs At FAU Saturday Night

NORFOLK, VA—The C-USA leading ODU Soccer Monarchs (8-3-1/5-1) travel to Florida Atlantic (6-3-2/1-3-1) for a Saturday night match-up at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton, FL.  ODU has won four straight and five of their last six matches, while the Owls are 6-0-1 at home.

ODU 5-1 has 15 total points and holds a two-point lead over New Mexico (4-0-1) and UAB (4-1-1) who both have 13 points.

This is the first ever meeting between the two schools.  FAU is led in scoring by junior forward Ryan Price with 15 total points on six goals and three assists.  Junior midfielder Dennis Bozkurt is second with nine points on three goals and three assists.  FAU’s goalkeeper Theo Jamilloux has a 1.45 goals against average which includes three shutouts.

ODU comes into the match with a 28 NCAA RPI and 29th national ranking by College Soccer News.  Monarchs senior forward Tim Hopkinson is tied for first in total goals with UAB’s Freddy Ruiz and Cristian Mata of Tulsa with nine.  Hopkinson is second in total points with 21, and first in C-USA with five game-winning goals. 

Junior Ivan Militar is fourth in the league with two game-winning goals, while goalkeeper Sean Stowe ranks fourth in saves percentage at .764, second in total saves with 42 and seventh in goals against average at 1.14 with two straight shutouts.

Next week, ODU travels to VCU on Oct. 30th in a make-up game, then hosts New Mexico on Nov. 2.

MONARCH NOTES:

ODU is 4-0-1 away from home, which includes the tie at Maryland.

ODU is 2-1-1 against nationally ranked teams in the NSCAA Coaches poll

ODU is 2-2-1 in overtime matches.
