Norfolk, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team will hit the road for a pair of C-USA matchups this weekend, taking on Rice (5-7-2) Friday at 8 p.m. eastern time (7 p.m. central) in Houston, Texas before traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Sunday for a 1 p.m. showdown with Southern Miss (6-7-4).

Last weekend, the Lady Monarchs battled to a 1-1 draw against Middle Tennessee State on Friday night before falling to UAB 2-0 on Sunday. As the regular season winds down, two wins this weekend would be pivotal for ODU as that could catapult them into the top five within the C-USA East Division standings. The top five school from both the East and West C-USA Divisions will earn a bid to the 2013 C-USA Tournament on Nov. 4-10 in Houston, Texas.

Last Matches
Last Friday night, the Lady Monarchs battled to a 1-1 stalemate against Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders struck first in the 35th minute, as Angie Lai capitalized off of Amalie Anderal’s corner kick and got MTSU on the scoreboard. At the half, ODU held a 9-6 advantage in shots but were unable to put one in the net.

In the 74th minute, ODU junior Jessie Klamut intercepted a Blue Raider pass and blasted a shot into the right side of the net for her team-leading third goal of the season. Despite a plethora of opportunities for both teams, regulation time expired with the score still knotted at 1-1. An extra 20 minutes of overtime was not enough to settle the difference, as the Lady Monarchs and Blue Raiders fought to a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday, ODU dropped a hard-fought contest to UAB 2-0. For the second straight game, the Lady Monarchs surrendered a goal in the 35th minute of play as Amy Harrison fed a ball to Johanna Liney who found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Shortly thereafter, in the 41st minute, the Blazers’ leading-scorer Kasey Johnson placed a ball over the head of ODU keeper Erin Kinz’s head and extended their lead to 2-0. Despite leading 17-16 in the shot count, the Lady Monarchs were unable to get on the scoreboard in the second half and fell to UAB 2-0.

Rice – Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 – 8 p.m./7 p.m. central
ODU will take on the Rice Owls (5-7-2) in Houston, Texas on Friday night at 8 p.m. eastern time. The Owls are looking to rebound after a two-game losing skid, as they fell to Florida International 5-2 and Colorado College 4-3 OT last weekend. Sophomore forward Holly Hargreaves enters the matchup as her team’s leading scorer, accumulating six goals thus far this season. The Owls are coached by Nicky Adams in her third year at the helm and tenth season on staff.

Southern Miss – Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 – 1 p.m.
On Sunday, the Lady Monarchs will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to square off with C-USA foe Southern Miss (6-7-4) at 1 p.m. The Lady Eagles have not won a game since a 10-1 routing of Alcorn State on Sept. 20. Southern Miss is looking to bounce back after three-straight shutout defeats, as they were ousted by Rice 3-0, UTSA 3-0, and Louisiana Tech 2-0 in their last three contests. Leading scorer Danica Roberts enters Sunday’s matchup with an impressive 12 goals on the season for the Lady Eagles. Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare is in his first season with the program after successful stints with the University of Mobile and South Alabama.
