NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's rowing team will be competing in the Head of the Schuylkill Regata on Saturday, October 26 in Philadelphia. The day is set to begin at 8 a.m. along the Schuylkill River.
Old Dominion's first race will begin at 9:00 a.m. ODU will participate in five different events and will have six boats competing. ODU will be defending their Commodore Cup in the Frosh/Novice Eight race as they won last year with a time of 14:52.
Eight of the Lady Monarchs just competed on Sunday at the Head of the Charles race in Boston and will be racing on a short week.
"We are more goal oriented and focused since it is a shorter week," said co-captain Paige Madison. "We know we have less time to work out issues making us more focused going towards this weekend."
An estimated 6,500+ athletes are expected to cross the finish line of the 2.5-mile scenic course. The Lady Monarchs final event will take place at 2:40 p.m.
"The team is very focused and also excited to head up to Philadelphia," said co-captain Miranda Brown. "This course is well known to the girls on the team. Our freshman got first place last year in their event, and we are working to defend that title. All of our boats have our blinders on and are ready to go!"
