BLACKSBURG, Va. – Carlos Lopez Villa (Madrid, Spain) of the Old Dominion University men’s tennis team advanced to the Championship match of the Singles Main Draw at the ITA Atlantic Regional’s in Blacksburg, Va. on Monday.
In the Quarterfinal match on Monday morning, Lopez Villa knocked off UVA’s Jordan Daigle in a tough three setter, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6).
With the win, Lopez Villa landed himself a spot in the Semifinal match on Monday afternoon against George Washington’s No. 9 seed Francisco Dias. Lopez Villa and Dias also went to three sets, but in the end Lopez Villa was too much for Dias (4-6, 7-5, 7-6(1)).
No. 6 seeded Lopez Villa will take on No. 5 seeded Alexis Heugas from VCU on Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the Championship of the Main Singles Draw of the 2013 ITA Atlantic Regional.
The winner of the Lopez Villa/Huegas match tomorrow will receive one of only 32 automatic bids to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Nov. 7-10.
