NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's rowing team competed in their first ever Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston Sunday afternoon. Overall, they beat 12 teams and finished in the top-25 collegiately.
ODU sent a lineup that had an average age of 19, which tied several other schools for the youngest. Old Dominion started sunday afternoon in lane 29, competing against 39 other organizations involved in the regatta. They finished 28th overall in a hotly contested event and finished 24th among collegiate crews. ODU competed against the Naval Academy and North Carolina two weeks ago in the Oyster Reef Regatta and on sunday beat out the Naval Academy for a better time. ODU also had a faster time than Boston College, George Washington University, the University of Connecticut, Rutgers University, College of the Holy Cross, Villanova University and Temple University.
"I was really happy with our performance today," said ODU head coach Daniel Garbutt. "We went against tough competition from different colleges and I am proud of where our girls finished."
