NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University rowing team will begin the fall season by hosting the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Naval Academy on Saturday, October 5. Action between both schools is set to start at 11:00 a.m. along the Lafayette River.

This event differs from the last time ODU and UNC met in the Lafayette River. The course is set for 1km longer than the last race, which occurred March 23. The first launch is set to begin at 11:00 a.m., which features a total of 8 boats of 8 rowers. The next launch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., which features each team sending four boats of 4 rowers. Each boat will be sent in 15-second intervals. The best places to watch Saturday’s race are along Mayflower Road, Hampton Boulevard and the Granby Street Bridge.

“I’m excited to see how the team reacts to our first racing opportunity,” said ODU head coach Daniel Garbutt. “With all the new faces, it will be valuable feedback as to how to move forward to best develop the team.”
