BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team completed their first day of play at the ITA Atlantic Regional’s in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday. All action is taking place on the campus of Virginia Tech.

SINGLES
Entering Friday, all four of the Monarchs competing in singles qualified for the Main Draw.

ODU’s senior Dante Terenzio took care of business 6-1, 6-1 over Navy’s Calvin Mark. Terenzio will have the tall task of facing No. 12 seeded Russell Bader from Penn State on Sat. at 11:00 a.m.

Old Dominion’s Zvonimir Podvinski took down Duquesne’s Alex Aleman (4-6, 7-5, 6-3). Next up for Podvinski will be No. 13 seed Danil Zelenkov of George Washington on Sat. at 11:30 a.m.

On Friday, No. 6 seeded Carlos Lopez Villa (ODU) received a bye in the First Round. On Saturday, Lopez Villa will face Virginia Tech’s Aaron Gomez. On Friday, Gomez beat Rich Robbie of Duquesne 6-2, 6-4. Lopez and Gomez will square off on Sat. 12:30 p.m.

Jonas Kuwert of ODU fell 7-5, 7-6(3) to George Washington’s Daniel O’Connor. Kuwert will return to action tomorrow in the Consolation Bracket against TBA.

Koen Wiggemans (ODU) lost to Daniel Grauel of Norfolk State (6-1, 6-3). Wiggemans will play in Consolation Bracket tomorrow against an opponent to still be determined.

DOUBLES
Lopez Villa and Terenzio (ODU) made quick work of Duquesne’s Max Rubin and Rich Robbie, 8-0. Next, Lopez Villa and Terenzio will go up against the No. 13 seed Slayer/O’Keefe from Radford on Sat. at 9:45 a.m.

-Podvinski and Kuwert (ODU) L, 8-3 to No. 12 seed Francisco Dias/Viktor Swensson (GW).

The COMPLETE SCHEDULE for the weekend is as follows:
Thursday, Oct. 17: Noon – Two rounds of qualifying singles

Friday, Oct. 18: 9 a.m. – First round of main draw singles and one round of doubles.

Saturday, Oct. 19: 9 a.m. – Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The singles round will be played in between the two rounds of doubles.

Sunday, Oct. 20: 10 a.m. – One round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles.

Monday, Oct. 21: 10 a.m. – Doubles semifinals followed by singles quarterfinals and semifinals.

Tuesday, Oct. 22: 10 a.m. – Finals of both singles and doubles.
