CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team completed Day Two action at the ITA Atlantic Regional’s in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday. Of the 10 matches that ODU has competed in over the first two days, the Lady Monarch’s have only lost one.
In all, five Lady Monarchs are competing in this weekend’s action on the campus of the University of Virginia.
SINGLES
On Saturday, four of Old Dominion’s five ladies won their First Round Main Singles Draw.
-Melissa Esnal Olguin def. Longwood’s Malin Allgurin (6-0, 6-4)
--Esnal Olguin will take on W&M’s Jeltje Loomas tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
-Nikol Hristova def. JMU’s Alex Huie (6-4, 6-3)
--Hristova will face W&M’s Leeza Nemchinov tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
-Nika Khmolovska def. Marshall’s Rachel Morales (6-1, 6-1)
--Khomolovska will hit Isel Martinez Marcos of Virginia Tech tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
-Ingrid Vojcinakova def. VCU’s captain Darya Yakauleva (6-4, 6-2)
--Vojcinakova has Marshall’s Dana Oppinger tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
-Marijana Novakovic lost a hard fought match to W&M’s Melanie Roy in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
DOUBLES
Both of Old Dominion’s double’s teams won their matches on Saturday.
In the Doubles Main Draw, Esnal Olguin and Nikol Hristova were given a bye on Friday in the first round. On Saturday, Esnal Olguin and Hristova defeated Liberty’s tandem of Hassey/Jenkins on Saturday, 8-4. Esnal Olguin and Hristova will take on West Virginia’s Barrett/Chahal tomorrow morning at 9:30.
Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic continued their winning ways on Saturday, as they took down UMBC’s Baikulova/Cleary 8-2. On Friday, Vojcinakova and Novakovic beat Radford’s Newman/Valls (8-4). Vojcinakova and Novakovic will next face UVA’s Xi/Faure tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
