NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team rallied off a 74th minute Jessie Klamut goal to come from behind and tie Middle Tennessee, 1-1, on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
Scoring started off in the 35th minute, when Middle Tennessee’s Amalie Anderal’s corner kick found Angie Lai, giving Middle Tennessee a 1-0 advantage and Lai her first goal this season.
At the half, Old Dominion led the shot count 9-6, while Middle Tennessee took two corners to ODU’s one.
Erin Kinz replaced Meredith Lenox in goal for Old Dominion to begin the second half. In the second half, Kinz totaled seven saves to keep the Lady Monarchs within one goal. Kinz would finish with eight key saves for ODU.
In the 74th minute, Jessie Klamut picked off a Blue Raider’s pass and one-timed a shot past Middle Tennessee’s keeper, Kelsey Brouwer, and into the right side of the net. Klamut’s three goals on the year leads Old Dominion this season and more importantly brought the score back to level pecking at 1-1.
Despite many opportunities by both teams at the end of regulation, the score remained tied. At the end of regulation, ODU led the shot count 20-15, as well as the corner kick count 8-4.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the extra 20 minutes of overtime play, bringing both teams to a 1-1 draw. This was the fourth tie this season for Middle Tennessee, bringing their record to 5-5-4 overall. The draw gives the Lady Monarchs their fifth point in conference play this season, and moves them to 1-9-3 on the year.
