BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion Men’s tennis team will travel to Blacksburg, Va., where the ITA Regional Championships will be held beginning Thursday, Oct. 17. The tournament will run through Oct. 22, on the campus of Virginia Tech, who is hosting the event at their indoor Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Competing in the tournament for ODU will be: Carlos Lopez Villa, Zvonimir Podvinski, Darragh Glavin, Jonas Kuwert, Dante Terenzio and Keon Wiggemans.
Glavin will team up with the freshman, Wiggermans for doubles play, but will not play any singles matches this weekend. All five of the other competing Monarchs were placed in the Main Singles Draw, which begins on Friday.
The ITA Atlantic Regional’s consists of a 32-player draw and the tournament begins on Thursday with of two rounds of singles. Play starts at 9 a.m. ODU is competing against 20 other teams including: Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, George Washington, Georgetown, James Madison, Liberty, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph, Temple, UMBC, VCU, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The schedule for this weekend's event is as follows:
Thursday – Qualifying Singles: Round of 32 and Round of 16
Friday – First Round of Main Draw Singles and First Round of Doubles
Saturday – The day will start with a round of doubles, followed by a round of singles with another round of doubles following
Sunday – Doubles in the morning followed by two rounds of doubles in the afternoon
Monday – Doubles: Semifinals, followed by Singles: Quarterfinals and Semifinals
Tuesday – Finals of both doubles and singles

-No. 6 seeded Carlos Lopez Villa (ODU) receives a bye in the First Round and faces the winner of Rich Robbie (DUQ)/Aaron Gomez (VT)
