ODU Places Six on Phil Steele Midseason All-Independent Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football placed six players on Phil Steele’s midseason FBS All-Independent Team, Steele announced on Thursday.

Wide receiver Larry Pinkard and offensive lineman David Born were named to the first team while quarterback Taylor Heinicke, wide receiver Blair Roberts, offensive lineman Jack Lowney and kicker Jarod Brown earned second-team accolades.

Pinkard leads all ODU receivers with 523 yards and is second on the team with 33 receptions with four touchdowns.

Born has helped the ODU offense produce 45.0 points per game and average 539 yards of offense per game.  The Bakersfield, Calif. native had started 32 straight games at left guard and the first six games this season.

Heinicke is having another tremendous season behind center for the Monarchs, completing 178-of-239 passes for 14 touchdowns so far this season.  He has also rushed for 235 yards and four touchdowns.  Heinicke is the active career leader in completion percentage at 70 percent.

Roberts leads ODU with 33 catches and five touchdown receptions.  He has 346 yards receiving on the year and is coming off a two-touchdown performance against Liberty, including the game-winning 27-yard score with 28 seconds left in the game.

Lowney, a team captain, has started the last 19-straight games at left tackle for ODU and has started 37-straight all together. 

Brown has been successful on 34-of-35 extra point attempts and is 6-of-8 on field goals.  The senior knocked in a career-best 52-yard field goal in the win over The Citadel, and also successfully converted two onsides kick attempts.

ODU is back in action this week as they travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.  The game will be broadcast locally on Cox 11 and regionally on Fox Sports South.
