NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's field hockey team climbed five spots this week from No. 20 to No. 15 in the latest NFHCA poll.
Old Dominion (7-6) has won six consecutive games dating back to September 22. ODU has outscored their previous six opponents 26-2. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Hept was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week. Hept has a current streak of four straight shutouts in which ODU has outscored their opponents by a combined 21-0. The last time ODU shutout four opponents in a row dates back to the 2007 season. Rosario Villagra was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the third consecutive week.
Four Big East teams are ranked, Connecticut (No. 2), ODU (No. 15), Temple (No. 16) and Louisville (No. 17).
ODU plays William & Mary Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Friday's game is a charity's game for pancreatic cancer. The team will be wearing purple socks. Fans are encouraged to wear purple and can visit this link to donate-www.pancan.org
The Lady Monarchs also visit No. 1 Maryland this Sunday at 1 p.m.
