Monarchs Host Liberty on Saturday for Homecoming Game

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football hosts Liberty on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the annual homecoming contest at 6 p.m.  The game will be televised locally on Cox 11 and Cox 114.

• For the third-straight week, Old Dominion scored 50 or more points as the Monarchs defeated Albany 66-10 last Saturday.  ODU hosts Liberty tonight and will feature its 33rd-straight sellout of Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

• Tonight's game will be broadcast on Cox 11 and Cox 114.  Doug Ripley will be the play-by-play announcer and John Bunting will be the color analyst.

• Taylor Heinicke was named the Oyster Bowl MVP for the third-straight year as he was 28-of-33 for 365 yards and two touchdowns.  Heinicke also ran for 30 yards and a touchdown.

• Colby Goodwyn rushed for 42 yards and scored three touchdowns to set a single-game career-high.  He was just one TD shy of tying Thomas DeMarco's single-game rushing TD record of four.  With those 42 rushing yards, Goodwyn is 84 yards away from breaking DeMarco's all-time rushing record of 1,456 yards.

• A week after tying the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game with five, ODU smashed the record by rushing for seven TD's against Albany.  Goodwyn ran for three, Heinicke, Cam Boyd, David Washington and Gerard Johnson all had one.

• Blair Roberts led all receivers with six receptions for 92 yards.  Larry Pinkard added five for 80 and a touchdown.  In all, 11 Monarchs had receptions Saturday night.

• A week after giving up its highest point output of the year, the ODU defense held Albany to its lowest of the season with just 10 points.  The Monarchs blocked a field goal, a punt and intercepted two passes.  The ODU defense allowed 325 yards of total offense, its lowest of the season.

• Anthony Wilson had a career-high 11 tackles while D.J. Simon had nine tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception.

• Sophomore Fellonte Misher recorded four tackles, his lowest total of the year but still leads the team with 40.  He recorded his first career interception in the first quarter in the win over Albany.

• Three true freshmen and four players overall saw action for the first time in their collegiate careers: True freshmen Jude Brenya, Daquin Moore and Aaron Young all played on defense, while Andrew Maddox played right tackle on offense.  Brenya became the second true freshmen two start a game this season, joining Richie Staton, who has started every game at linebacker.

•  For the for the fourth time this season and the third-straight game, ODU piled up more than 450 yards of total offense.  ODU also produced 50 plus points for the third-straight game.

With his 18-yard pass to Colby Goodwyn in the third quarter, ODU QB Taylor Heinicke reached 9,000 career passing yards.  He is fourth among active FBS signal callers in career passing yards, behind Corey Robinson, Aaron Murray and Derek Carr.

Colby Goodwyn scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns in the win over Albany. The three scores gives Goodwyn 20 rushing touchdowns in his career.

• ODU is 41-12 under head coach Bobby Wilder, appearing in the FCS playoffs the only two years they were eligible for a postseason bid.
