NORFOLK, Va. - The eighth ranked Lady Monarchs (1-3) scored three goals but seventh ranked Virginia (4-0)  held on for a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Sports Complex.

Old Dominion University was led by sophomore midfielder Sarah Breen who scored two goals.  ODU forward Teisha King added a goal, her first of the year. ODU trailed 3-2 at the end of the half.

"I felt like we had an opportunity to get back in the game. We had some good individual efforts," Head Coach Andrew Griffiths said. "I feel like we are still young as a team and learning how to work most effectively together."

In the second half, Virginia went up 4-2 on a goal by freshman forward Caleigh Foust. ODU forward Sarah Breen tallied her second goal and trimmed the Cavalier lead to 4-3. Virginia freshman forward Caleigh Foust scored the empty net goal, which gave her three goals in the game to give Virginia the 5-3 win.

Virginia outshot ODU 18-11 as ODU keeper Megan Hept  (Chesapeake, VA.) came up with 7 saves.

The Lady Monarchs travel to Chapel Hill on Friday to face the No. 1 ranked University of North Carolina at 6 p.m., and then face tenth ranked Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m.
