COLUMBIA, SC-- Led by Baseball Monarchs Jordan Negrini, Tyler Urps, Connor Myers and Brett Harris the Peninsula Pilots claimed its first Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Championship with a 2-1, eight inning win over the Columbia Blowfish last month at Capital City Stadium. The Pilots swept the best-fo-three series, with both victories by one-run in extra innings.
ODU's Jordan Negrini's sacrifice fly with one out in the top of the eighth inning scored the winning run to put the Pilots (39-24) ahead and on the way to their first title since joining the league 14 years ago. They were runners-up in 2006, 2007, and 2009.
"I was trying to be aggressive and get something in the air," Negrini said. "I saw a couple of off-speed pitches, but that last one was a fastball up in the zone, and I was able to get enough of it for Bradon Reitano to score from third."
