NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University sophomore midfielder Sarah Breen (Taylors Hill, Australia) scored two goals to lead the Lady Monarchs (3-6, 1-1) to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Friars of Providence (4-5, 1-1) Friday afternoon at the L.R. Sports Complex. Breen (named to Big East Honor roll last week) recently scored twice against Louisville last Friday in ODU's first ever Big East conference meeting.

Breen gave the Monarchs the 1-0 lead at 14:49 on a corner with assists from Rosario Villagra and Kelsey Smither. In the second half, Providence junior forward Daniella Bernasconi tied the game on a tip in front of the goal with an assist going to Henni Tietze. In the overtime session, Breen created a steal and broke away from the defense to give her an open shot that did not miss the back of the net.

"Providence played hard and determined - they did not give up," said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "It [The game-winner] was a spectacular individual effort to win the game- not only the goal itself but the effort to get there. She [Breen] made a tackle, ran 50 yards before her shot. Exceptional effort."

ODU outshot the Friars, 17-10 and had 9 corners to the Friars 4. ODU Senior goalkeeper Megan Hept made 4 critical saves to receive her third win on the year. Providence keeper Deidra Clymer stopped 7 shots on the day.

ODU plays Quinnipiac Sunday at 1 p.m in a non-conference game from the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
