During fall camp, ODUSports.com featured one Monarch a day in a "Get to Know Your Monarchs" segment.  That will continue during the season, as we get to know junior running back, Cam Boyd.

Cam Boyd/RB/Dumfries, Va.

Q. What are you studying here at ODU? I’m studying Criminal Justice. I had a friend whose dad worked for the DEA and I think I would like to do that some day.

Q. What were some of the emotions on the bench during the game against the Citadel? Man, that was crazy! When we got that final play I think I jumped out of my skin.

Q. What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment in your football career? I’d say the Maryland game when I scored a touchdown.

Q. What are some of your favorite community service projects to do as a team? I like getting to do anything where we get to go out as a team and interact with the kids.

Q. What was the best part of your high school football career? I got to play with one of my best friends during high school. That was really cool. Now we both play college football and that’s awesome.

Q. What do you think about the move up to Conference USA? I think its pretty cool that I get to play at a school where we’re up in conferences. I can’t wait to see this program keep growing.

Q. What do you do on bus rides to make the time go faster? Oh man, those things can get long. I’d say that I normally just plug in my music and try to catch up on my sleep.

Q. What are your hobbies outside of football? We’ll I’m not sure if it’s much of a hobby but I really like playing video games and just relaxing with my friends.

Q. What was it like walking out on the field during the game versus The Citadel? Did you like the fireworks? They were super cool! I wasn’t really expecting that. I love getting to run on the field down to the student section and get our fans all excited.

Q. How are you personally preparing for the game Saturday? I’m just focusing on my responsibilities. Trying to work on them in practice and do my best on the field Saturday.

Q. What is one of your most embarrassing moments either in practice or in a game? Oh man, yeah that’s an embarrassing story. I was in practice in high school and was running a play when out of nowhere I just fell. I think the grass just reached up and got me. No one was around, I just face planted.

Q. Who do you feel has mentored you the most and invested into you as a player and as a person? I’d say my mom for sure. She’s an amazing woman. She has kept me grounded throughout all this and has been my biggest support system.

Q. What are your plans after you graduate? Will you continue to be involved in football? I’m not sure what I’ll do after college just yet. I think it would be really cool to stay involved in football but if I can’t, that’s ok too.

Q. To date, what has been one of your favorite football games to play in and why? I think the game this year at ECU. The fans there are crazy energetic. It was cool seeing all those people there.

Q. If you could trade places with any other sports star whom would it be and why? Floyd Mayweather. I love that dude. He’s just a champion all around. I think I could keep up his winning streak even if I took his place.

Q. What got you interested in football? I started playing when I was pretty young and just really enjoyed it. My dad was the one who got me into it but I kept playing because I loved the sport.

Q. What advice would you give to yourself as a young football player? To keep up with your grades. I wish that was something that I had focused on more growing up. Football is fun but the grades will get you places.

Q. Did you ever play any other sports growing up? I did, I played a little basketball, track and field and some wrestling.

Q. Which one would you prefer: being inducted into the Hall of Fame or having a Super Bowl win? Super Bowl for sure. That would be really cool. I think that’s every players dream though.

Q. What did you like about ODU during the recruiting process? I think the strong offensive team that we have. I saw the quarterbacks we have and I got really excited about the idea of playing with them.

Q. How is it joining a fairly new football program and being able to help shape it for the players now and the players to come? It’s really cool to be able to leave my mark on the team and the program. Just knowing that you’re making history playing for this new team is really cool.

Q. Where has been your favorite place to play an away game? Maryland was really cool. It was just such a huge crowd to play in front of. I loved the energy in that stadium.

Q. Any pregame rituals you would like to share with us? I like to call my mom and pray with her before every game. Then I normally put in some headphones and listen to music to get me pumped up.

Q. Who on the team would be elected as more energetic and enthusiastic than Big Blue? Oh man, can I say Coach Wilder? That man is the most energetic person I know! He’s awesome, he would definitely beat Big Blue in an energy contest.

Q. What is one thing you would like to say to all the 12th Monarchs out there? I’d say thank you guys so much. We couldn’t do it without your support. Keep up the good team spirit and we can’t wait to play for you guys Saturday.
