Get to Know Your Monarchs: D.J. Morrell Q&A

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football finished their fifth practice of the preseason this morning, the first in full pads.  ODUSports.com will talk to a player every practice to let the fans get to know the Monarchs.

Today we take a look at senior, D.J. Morrell.

When did you start playing football? I started playing Pop Warner while I was in middle school.  I loved watching the Giants play ever since I was a little kid. 

What do you like about playing the offensive line? The bond that we as a group have and the hard work that we put in day in and day out.

Biggest Inspiration? My Brother, Brian.  He’s been through some tough times and I think of him every day.

Favorite Sports Team? New York Giants

Favorite Athlete? David Diehl (Giants Offensive Tackle)

What is your hometown (Norwalk, Conn.) like?  I love it. I love the cold weather, and it has a lot of nice mountains and lakes.  It’s a nice and easy going area.

Favorite Football Memory?  My senior year of high school I got a chance to run the ball as a fullback.

Favorite Food? Steak and Lobster

Favorite Movie? Gran Torino

Talk about playing in front of a sold out Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium? It’s amazing.  Running through the tunnel and hearing the roar of the crowd is awesome.

Talk about the camaraderie amongst the offensive line? We’re very close, we hang out all the time.  Go to hockey games and movies together.  We always travel together in a big group.

Favorite part of Hampton Roads area? Probably the beach.  I love going to the beach.

Pregame routine? I keep to myself.  Talk my assignments over in my head and just get relaxed, try not get to worked up and excited.

What’s on your iPod? I love heavy metal.  Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC.

What is your major? Communications and exercise science.  I would love to be an athletic trainer.
