NORFOLK, VA-- THE ODU Lady Monarch Field Hockey squad returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host the Eagles of American (1-0) University at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
The eighth ranked Lady Monarchs lost the season opener Friday, 3-1 against sixth ranked Penn State as Kelsey Smither scored ODU's goal. American University opened their regular season with a 2-1 win at Richmond Friday.
This will be the 30th meeting between the two teams with ODU leading the series, 27-2. The two teams met last year with the Lady Monarchs winning, 2-1.
Thus far, six opponents on the ODU schedule are in this week's NFHCA preseason poll. They are North Carolina (1), Maryland (2), Connecticut (4), Penn State (6), Virginia (7),and Duke (10).
ODU hosts Maryland on Sept. 6 and Virginia, Sept. 8 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
