RICHMOND, VA—Ivan Militar’s (Szeged, Hungary) goal with four minutes left capped off a three goal second half rally as the ODU Soccer Monarchs down 2-0 at halftime defeated High Point, 3-2 in the season opener in the VCU Soccer Tournament at Sports Backers Stadium. Tim Hopkinson had an assist and a goal.

"The boys showed great heart to come from behind and earn a 3-2 victory after trailing 2-0 at the half," said ODU Head Coach Alan Dawson."We have learned a lot from this game and it will make us stronger as a group."

Trailing, 2-0 at halftime, ODU freshman Jesse Miralrio (Arlington, TX.)  scored with a shot to the top left of the box to put the Monarchs on the board at the 69:51 mark.  With six minutes left, senior co-captain Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) scored on a shot to the lower right of the net on an assist from sophomore Ryan Condotta (Keller, TX.).

The game winner by Militar came on an assist from Hopkinson as MIlitar shot to the middle. High Points first half goals came from Pat Shelton on an assist from Ben Burdon and Erien Campbell from Austin Yearwood.

ODU outshot High Point, 26-5 overall and 8-2 in shots on goal, as both Hopkinson and Miralrio had three each.  The Monarchs will play VCU Sunday night at 7 p.m.
