NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football completed their 17th day of practice Monday morning at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex Practice Field.

ODUSports.com is taking a closer look at this year’s team. Today we take a look at freshman running back, Gerard Johnson.

Why did you choose Old Dominion? I love the atmosphere of the area. My Dad was in the Navy so we would come down here a lot. It also reminds me of home having the city atmosphere as well.

What is your favorite thing about Hampton Roads? I love to eat so it is definitely the food. I love that it is such an active area, there is always something going on.

What is your favorite restaurant? Cookout

How is your first ODU football camp going? It took a lot of adjusting. It was tough, a lot more physical, but I’ve been fighting through it. I just try to get better every day.

How has the transition been going from a high school quarterback to an ODU running back? It has been a big transition. As a quarterback I never had to block, and picking up the blitz and pass protection as a running back is very different.

What is one thing you anticipate going into your first season? I am looking forward to the high level of competition and the game day atmosphere!

How have the upperclassmen been thus far? They have been a lot of help, especially Colby Goodwyn and Tyree Lee. They have been helping us on and off the field.

How was your summer? It was very busy! It was the first time I have ever took summer classes and it was a lot more than I expected with football, but overall it was good.

What is your favorite movie? Hangover III

What is on your iPod? Wale, T.I., Young Jeezy, and a lot of rap

What is your favorite sport to watch other than football? Basketball

What is your favorite sport’s team? Washington Redskins

Who is your favorite player? Robert Griffin III

Who is your role model? My older cousin, Kendall

What is something most people do not know about you? My cousin, Kendall Langford, plays for the St. Louis Rams.

What are your personal goals for this season? My goal is to be a better player at the end of the season than I am right now.
