NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football completed their 13th day of practice Monday morning at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex Practice Field.
ODUSports.com is taking a closer look at this year’s team. Today we take a look at junior linebacker, D.J. Simon.
When did you get started playing football and what got you involved? I started playing Pop Warner when I was five. My dad signed me up and it came naturally to me.
Favorite Football Memory? In high school my senior year, I returned my first punt return back for a touchdown.
Why Old Dominion? It’s a great atmosphere here. I wanted to be a part of something that I helped build into a top program.
You joined ODU in January, what was that like? It is way faster here than junior college. We do everything fast, including lifting. Everything is at a high tempo.
Talk about ODU joining Conference USA and FBS? It’s really exciting. It is a great opportunity for ODU to show we can play with the big boys.
Sept. 14 against Howard is the first time you’ll take the field at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium, what are you looking forward to about the home opener? The atmosphere. We have die-hard fans here at Old Dominion. Even the spring game we had a good crowd, I wasn’t used to that.

What is your major? Sport Management. I would like to be an Athletic Director.
