NORFOLK, Va. – Three Old Dominion University football games will be aired this fall by Cox Communications in Hampton Roads, as announced today by Cox and ODU athletics on Friday.

Fox College Sports will produce the Monarchs opener on Aug. 31 at East Carolina at 7 p.m., and ODU fans that subscribe to Cox’s “basic plus essential” service with a set top box receiver will be able to see the game in the Hampton Roads market. The game will be cleared on a digital channel, which will be announced in the near future.

“Cox is committed to be bringing ODU football coverage to our area and we’re very excited to provide this benefit for our fans in the region. We hope they enjoy the games!” says Betty Jo Roberts, Vice President of Field Marketing for Cox Virginia.

Additionally, Cox Communications in Hampton Roads will produce and air two home games on the Monarchs schedule, including the matchup with The Citadel on Sept. 21, at 6 p.m., which is Cox Game Day and the Homecoming contest against Liberty University on Oct. 5, also at 6 p.m. Both games will be aired on a digital essential channel in the Hampton Roads area.

Providing the play by play for the two locally produced games is Doug Ripley, the host of ESPN 94.1 FM’s “Inside Monarch Nation”, heard every Saturday morning from 9 -10 a.m., and the voice of Lady Monarch basketball. John Bunting, a former head football coach at the University of North Carolina and an 11-year veteran linebacker in the NFL, will serve as the color analyst.

“We are very pleased that Cox Communications has been able to work with Fox Sports to clear the East Carolina game in our market, as well as produce two of our home games,” says ODU athletic director Dr. Wood Selig. “The TV games originating from S.B. Ballard stadium provide us with a great opportunity to showcase what we believe to be one of the best home field environments in all of college football.”

Old Dominion’s game at the University of Maryland will be also carried live on ESPNews on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. All other home games will be streamed live on Monarch Media, available at www.odusports.com
