Heinicke Named Beyond Sports Network Preseason FBS All-American

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football quarterback Taylor Heinicke was named preseason All-America by Beyond Sports Network, the organization recently announced.

Last season, Heinicke was named BSN’s FCS Offensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-America honors.

Heinicke was chosen as an FBS honorable mention All-America along with Fresno State’s Derek Carr and Alabama’s A.J. McCarron.  Jonny Manziel of Texas A&M was named first team while Tajh Boyd of Clemson was the second team quarterback.

A junior, Heinicke was the 2012 Walter Payton Award Winner, given to the best Player in the FCS, and also received the Dudley Award for the Best Division I Player in Virginia.  Heinicke completed an FCS record 398 passes out of 579, for 5,076 yards, also a record, 44 touchdown passes.  Heinicke also rushed for 470 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Heinicke and the Monarchs open the 2013 regular season at East Carolina on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
