HOT SPRINGS, VA—Old Dominion’s Ashton Newsom and Tim Ritter advanced to the first round of match play at the Virginia State Amateur. Newsom lost 6 and 5 to three-time Amateur and Ping All-East Region selection Brinson Paolini of ACC champion Duke, and Ritter lost to Zach Bachou of Forest, VA., 5 and 3. The Virginia State Amateur which is being held at the Homestead’s Cascades Course in Hot Springs, VA.
Newsom finished two rounds of stroke play (72-75) at 147, while Ritter advanced after a six-way play-off
For one of the final three spots after shooting (78-71) 149. John Dawson missed the cut, finishing (79-72) 151.
