Monarch Sailing Shoots Up to No. 5 Nationally

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University coed sailing team jumped seven spots this week to their highest spot all season long at No. 5 in Sailing World’s college rankings, presented by Sperry Top-Sider.

The Monarchs qualified for the 2013 ICSA/Gill Dinghy Coed National Championships last weekend behind their strongest performance of the season as they took second place in the Eastern Division of the ICSA Dinghy Coed National Semifinals. ODU’s A-Division tandem of senior skipper and team captain Dillon Paiva along with junior crew Chloe Constants and freshman Crew Julia Wiesner captured the B-Division title with 54 points.

Old Dominion is preparing for the national championship events taking place in St. Petersburg, Fla. later this month. The ICSA Sperry Topsider Women’s National Championships take place May 21-24 while the ICSA/Gill Dinghy Coed National Championships run May 28-30.
