NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion Baseball Monarchs(24-21) had five players with two hits each in a 7-3 victory over the Keydets (19-30) of VMI Tuesday night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Sophomore Josh Eldridge (Lorton, VA.) ,freshman PJ Higgins (Wallingford, CT.),along with juniors Jordan Negrini (Kihei, Hawaii), Josiah Burney (Gloucester, VA.) and Tyler Urps (Wilton, CA.) each had two hits on the night. Eldridge, Michael Perez (Fairfax Station, VA), Burney and Urps each knocked in a run. ODU pounded out 12 hits against four Keydet pitchers.
ODU starter Brett Harris (Chesapeake, VA.) picked up his first win of the season, throwing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts, two walks and three hits allowed.
The Keydets were led by Red Dowdell and Nick Dwyer with two hits and one RBI each, while thirdbaseman Ray Lopez scored twice.
ODU returns to action this weekend with its final CAA series against George Mason beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and will be carried live on STAR1310 AM. Saturday's game will be senior night and that contest will be televised live on Cox with ODU Director of Broadcasting Ted Alexander providing the play-by-play.
