SKILLMAN, N.J. - Old Dominion University men's tennis sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa moved up to No. 101 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, the ITA announced on Wednesday.
This is the highest ranking of the year for Lopez Villa, who is 18-1 on the year. A native of Madrid, Spain, Lopez Villa has defeated three ranked opponents, with two of them currently ranking in the top-55 in the country.
The sophomore was leading Arturs Kazijevs in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championships, 7-6, 2-2, before the match was stopped. Lopez Villa and doubles partner Can Cetinel also delivered an 8-6 win over the No. 83 doubles team in the country over SMU.
Lopez Villa won his first 13 matches of the year before his only loss, a three-setter to No. 57 Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech, and won five-straight before the C-USA Championships.
